Better the Beginning...



I sat at the computer
wondering what to do;
and looked to my genius
to create something new.

I started a masterpiece,
and threw it away.
I began a limerick,
then thought, "No way!"

With waste paper mounting
I poured myself a drink -
not because I wanted to,
more to help me think!

I launched into a sonnet,
although I didn't get far.
I embarked on an epic -
it became too bizarre.

So the germs of ideas
crowding my mind
didn't have an ending
of any darned kind!

So, rather than to finish
all those I had begun,
I felt I ought to conclude
at least one little one.

But I'm no good at endings
and so I have to be glad
the title was 'Beginnings'
which you've already had!
