Dona Nobis Pacem

Grant Us Peace

Synchronised whispers make teacher's voice
calling wayward children to a halt
"Put away destructive big boys toys!"
Chastised perpetrators of assault.

Let bully and victim now shake hands -
apologies to those who deserve -
returned pocket money save parched lands
and timely freedom from those they served.

Release the Voices from the cupboards.
Though you disagree, let them all speak.
(The tunes of many little dove-birds
in flock's evensong might reach their peak.)

See the loner playing his own game.
Alone, no support, he watches on.
Go, entreat him, and ask him his name.
Tell him he's welcome - the bully's gone.

Culture and belief varies from his,
offering others to be enriched.
Assimilated differences -
beautiful patchwork cleverly stitched.

Subtle hues - variation on skin
cultural differences a blessing
offering hero and heroine
once oppressed, release prepossessing.

Tired of hearing about wars and pain -
Say, "Stop it. Stop it all of you!" So,
Let winds of change rotate weather vane -
Take white hankie and have damn good blow!

And listen! Let it be understood.
Voice of reason won't be confounded
Time's main objective is common good.
Stand tall - statue-still - and be counted!
